I am in my 31st year with this project truck!

I bought this 1973 Chevy C-20 3/4 ton pickup from Continental Telephone at auction for $2800.oo in 1977 with 100656 miles on her. Originally the truck came with a 350ci engine, manual transmission and AC. The bed was a 8 foot stepside with one 18 gallon fuel tank.

Over the years I have made changes. Listed are just some of the ones I can remember. The truck has suffered a few encounters with other vehicles, one light poll, one deer, one duck and numerous encounters with the high country brush and low hanging trees.

  • Changed bed to fleetside
  • Added driver side fuel tank and valving
  • Added 1 ton springs and coil and Ranchos
  • 05/25/1982 Rebuilt engine with .30 bore, 400 crank, 260 comp cam = AKA nice running 383ci
  • Rebuilt SM-465 granny 4 speed transmission
  • Added 2101 Edelbrock
  • Added 750 Holley
  • Rebuilt 993 heads with 202in - 160ex - hard seats - bronze wall coils - ported and polished
  • Changed 750 Holley to 600 Edelbrock after heads installed. Very smooth and strong power to 5000 rpm.
  • Changed old multi-belt system to serpentine belt system. Retrofit Air Conditioning to R-134. Everything new but evaporator. The money and effort to make this change was worth it. A lot cleaner look to engine compartment and a lot less noise.
  • Added Doug Thorley headers
  • Added new 15000lbs. bolt-on receiver hitch
  • Installed new 4 row radiator
  • Installed new exhaust with magnaflow muffler.
  • Installed new MSD HEI distributor
  • Installed blue bucket seats. $43.13 from Pick-U-Part.
  • Installed almost new black dash. $25.00 from Pick-U-Part. (This was a real find)
  • Installed new JVC CD/AM/FM for the travel'n music.
  • Did some body work and primed for paint. More body work needed.
  • 09/30/2007 Preparing engine bay for a newly rebuild 406+.30 engine.

    cleaned engine bay

  • 11/1/2007 Rebuilt 406 small block engine ready for installation.

  • 11/2/2007 Installed and running strong!

NOTE: I would like to take a moment here to thank John Nijssen of The Stroker Engine Company located in Apple Valley, CA 760-247-0690 for the tremendous job he did on this engine. John is ASE certified in Block Machining, Cylinder Head Repair and Engine Assembly but more than that, John takes as much time with you as needed to determine and develop just the engine you desire. His expertise is in building race engines but he is more than capable in building anything from mild to wild, blown, supercharged, carb or fuel injected. So if you are desirous of the best possible engine for your ride give John a call. He builds and ships world wide and backs his work with after the sale support including traveling to you in the unlikely event you have a concern or problem with his work. I highly recommend him .
  • Future plans include a new white paint job inside and out and a vinyl floor mat because this still truck has to do the dirty work around here.

This is my trash truck, wood getter, get me to the back country fishing spot, backup RV puller, quad hauler RIDE! With all the upgrades to the mechanical side of the pickup, the cosmetics have suffered but are currently being addressed. Due to dry air in the great Mojave desert, this truck has very little rust aside from typical spots where it was exposed to the sand dunes of Pismo Beach for 10 years.
